Brewster accepts position with the San Diego Chargers

AUSTIN, Texas - University of Texas head coach Mack Brown announced Monday that Tim Brewtser, who has served as the Longhorns tight ends coach the past four years, has accepted the same coaching position with the San Diego Chargers.
"Tim Brewster has been with me for 14 years," Brown said. "It is a sad time for Sally and I personally because we are really close to the Brewsters. Tim and Cathy (his wife) have worked with us for as long as anyone has before. On one side, it's disappointing to see him leave, but on the other hand, it's a great opportunity for him. He has a reputation of being an excellent recruiter but has not gotten enough credit for what he has done here at Texas and at North Carolina with the tight ends. I think that just about every player he has coached has played in the NFL. He has done a great job and we will miss him."
During his tenure, Brewster guided Derek Lewis to first-team All-Big 12 honors in 1998 and Bo Scaife to honorable mention laurels in 2001.
Texas will begin its search for a replacement immediately.
"As much as many people like continuity, change is sometimes good," Brown said. "We hired Duane Akina, who came in and brought some great ideas to our staff last year. My job will be to find someone like that who will bring in some new ideas to our staff offensively."
