Olympian, national champ team members lead ballot

AUSTIN, Texas -- Olen Underwood, Scott Henderson and the late Leo Brooks, three former Longhorns who played on each of Texasí national championship football teams, will join Olympic swimmer Shaun Jordan and three vintage selections as inductees into the Longhorn Hall of Honor later this fall, it was announced Sunday.
The four current era Longhorns were selected from a ballot of 16 nominees in one of the closest votes in the 47-year history of the organizationís Hall of Honor Council.
lAt its annual meeting prior to the first home football game, the 51-member group of former lettermen representing all sports and all eras also ratified the Vintage Committeeís recommendation of the induction of Bruce Parker, a javelin thrower in the 1950s, as well as baseball players Chuck Knutson and the late Woody Woodman.
The seven will be officially enshrined during ceremonies surrounding the Longhornsí game with Texas Tech on November 15.
Underwood, a Federal Judge, played guard and linebacker on the 1963 National Championship team and earned all-Southwest Conference honors in 1964.Henderson, a Dallas attorney, was a three-time Academic All-American and an All-American linebacker on the National Championship teams of 1969 and 1970.
Brooks, who died last year, was a rancher and business man following a career in the NFL.He was an all-SWC defensive tackle on the 1969 National Champs.
Jordan was a member of four consecutive NCAA Championship teams at Texas and won two Olympic Gold Medals as a member of the US 4X100 freestyle relay teams in 1988 and 1992.
Knutson was one of the best right-handed hitters to play at old Clark Field for the Longhorns, earning all-American honors in 1961.Parker was an outstanding javelin and discus thrower in 1957-59.
Woodman, who died of cancer in June, was a two-time all-conference second baseman who went on to become a chief fund-raiser for UT athletics and a popular staff member of the department.
The seven will be honored at a banquet at the Four Seasons Hotel on Friday, November 14, and then will be officially inducted in ceremonies during the Texas Tech game on November 15.
