Longhorns ranked No. 8 in ESPN/USA Today Coaches Preseason Top 25 Poll

The annual ESPN/USA Today Coaches Preseason Top 25 Poll was released on Friday morning and The University of Texas ranks eighth. The No. 8 national ranking marks the fourth consecutive season it has opened in the Top 10. It is the first time since the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Preseason Poll began in 1982 that the Horns have made four consecutive appearances in the Top 10.
Texas, which entered last season ranked No. 4 in the poll, completed its third consecutive 10-win season in 2003, finished 10-3 with a No. 11 ranking in the coaches poll.
The Longhorns, who received 1,087 points, rank behind USC (1,500 points), Oklahoma (1,426), LSU (1,387), Georgia (1,328), Miami, Fla. (1,246), Florida State (1,177) and Michigan (1,128). USC received the most first-place votes with 449, while Oklahoma collected 12, followed by LSU with five.
In all, four Big 12 Conference teams were ranked in the Top 25 with Kansas State ranking 13th and Missouri 17th.
The Longhorns open the 2004 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 4, when they host North Texas at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium at 6 p.m.
