AUSTIN, Texas -- Dariam Acevedo tallied a match-high 15 kills, added eight digs and also had a season high four aces as the No. 22 Texas volleyball team swept Oklahoma - 30-16, 30-22, 30-14 - on Saturday in front of a season-high 2,508 fans at Gregory Gym.
The Longhorns' victory was UT's 28th in the all-time series against OU as the Horns have won every match between the two schools in the teams' series history dating back to 1975.
Texas (9-2, 4-1 Big 12) saw five players record at least six kills for one of the team's most balanced offensive outputs of the season. Leticia Armstrong had nine kills, while both Brandy Magee and Jen Christian connected for eight kills. Lauren Paolini had six kills on the night.
Alyson Jennings led UT with 12 digs, three fewer than Oklahoma's team total of 15.
The Longhorns also added nine blocks - paced by Armstrong's match-high four - as the team held the Sooners to a .074 attack percentage for the match. Texas, in comparison, hit .422, marking the second time this season UT hit .400 or better.
UT added nine aces in the match as the Sooners mustered only a pair in the loss.
Oklahoma (5-9, 0-6 Big 12), which remained winless in Big 12 action, was led by Joanna Schmitt's nine kills. Eliane Santos added eight kills and also had a match-high four blocks, including two solo efforts.
Texas asserted itself in the match's opening points as the team jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead, forcing OU head coach Santiago Restrepo to call a time out. Coming out of the break, the Sooners could pull no closer than four points as the Longhorns slowly pulled away. Acevedo closed out the game with three-straight aces to hand the Longhorns a 1-0 lead.
Oklahoma pulled out to a four-point lead - at 12-8 - in the second game before the Longhorns rallied to knot the score at 14-14. At 16-16, Texas used a 5-1 run to take the lead for good and then a 4-0 run to move to 25-18 to close out the game with a comfortable margin.
The Longhorns again jumped out early in the third game, moving ahead at 8-3 before an OU timeout. After a Schmitt kill to bring the gap to four points, the Horns rattled off three-straight points - a pair of kills by Magee and a Michelle Moriarty ace - to extend a seven-point lead. At 11-8, Texas kicked into gear and mounted a 10-2 run to move ahead by 11 points at 21-10. Texas closed out the match with a 5-1 run, capped by a solo block by Heather Schreiber on match point.
Texas returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 5, when they travel to No. 23 Texas A&M for a mid-week Big 12 match at the Aggies' G. Rollie White Coliseum. The Aggies enter the match winless in league play with an 0-4 record in conference matches after a 3-0 loss at No. 16 Kansas State on Saturday, Oct. 1.
