Dizdar falls in first round of NCAA Singles competition

ATHENS, Ga. -- Texas sophomore Petra Dizdar (Split, Croatia) dropped a 6-4, 7-6 (8) decision to Stanford's Theresa Logar in the first round of the NCAA Women's Singles Championship on Monday afternoon at the Henry Feild Stadium Courts on the campus of the University of Georgia. Dizdar, ranked 54th nationally, finishes her season with a 23-17 singles record.
Logar, the No. 32 singles player in the nation, advances to the second round to face No. 8 seed and eighth-ranked Suzi Babos of California on Tuesday, May 24. Babos recorded a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over Kentucky's Kim Coventry on Monday morning.
In other NCAA individual competition, juniors Katie Ruckert (Vienna, Va.) and Kendra Strohm (Tucson, Ariz.) open doubles play in the 32-team draw on Tuesday, May 24 at 12:30 p.m. (Central) against Olga Borisova and Marianna Yuferova of VCU. The Longhorn duo is currently tabbed No. 28 in the nation and has compiled a 17-15 overall record.
