Former sprinter Bobby Whilden breaks world masters record in 100 meters

Former University of Texas sprinter Bobby Whilden set a new masters M70 100m world record on Thursday, June 9 at the National Senior Games in Pittsburgh, Pa. Whilden, 70, finished the race in 12.76 seconds to shatter the previous world record of 12.91 set by legendary Stanford coach Payton Jordan, who set the mark in 1991 at age 74.
Whilden, a 1998 inductee into the UT Hall of Honor, led the Longhorns to three consecutive Southwestern Conference Championships (1955-57), earned three All-America honors and won two conference titles (100y and 220y) while at Texas. He went on to become a member of three world record setting 440-yard relay teams and was a finalist in the 200 meters at the 1956 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Whilden is a retired partner from the corporate law section of Vinson & Elkins' Houston office and is currently a Senior Vice President and General Counsel of firm client, BMC Software Inc.
