Smallwood’s historic hurdles performance leads Men’s Track & Field at NCAA Outdoor Championships

Kendrick Smallwood earns silver in the 110m hurdles with collegiate No. 2 all-time performer mark; Kelsey Daniel places seventh in triple jump.
EUGENE, Ore. – Texas Men's Track & Field concluded competition on day three of the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships on Friday at Hayward Field, highlighted by a historic silver-medal performance from Kendrick Smallwood and a First Team All-America finish from Kelsey Daniel.
The Longhorns finished with 10 points to tie for 26th in the team standings.
Smallwood delivered another historic performance in the 110-meter hurdles, lowering his own school record and earning a silver medal with a time of 12.95. The mark ranks him as the No. 2 performer in collegiate history and made Smallwood the first Longhorn to break the 13-second barrier in the event. With Friday's performance, Smallwood now owns the top 19 times in program history and secured First Team All-America honors.
Daniel also earned First Team All-America recognition in the triple jump, placing seventh with a mark of 16.44 meters (53-11.25) on his final attempt of the competition.
In the 400-meter hurdles final, Kody Blackwood appeared poised for a top-two finish before clipping the final hurdle, crossing the line in 53.52 to place ninth overall.
Osawese Agbonkonkon added a 16th-place finish in the high jump, clearing 2.11 meters (6-11).
On the women's side, Tabea Eitel opened competition in the heptathlon and sits 14th overall with 3,454 points through four events.
Eitel began the day with a time of 14.03 in the 100-meter hurdles to score 973 points before recording a personal-best clearance of 1.75 meters (5-8.75) in the high jump, adding 916 points. She followed with a mark of 12.63 meters (41-5.25) in the shot put for 703 points and closed the day with a 25.27 performance in the 200 meters to add 862 points.
Texas concludes competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Saturday. Eitel resumes the heptathlon with the long jump at 4:30 p.m. CT (2:30 p.m. PT), while the women's 4x100-meter relay will compete in the final at 7:02 p.m. CT (5:02 p.m. PT). Amelliah Birdow is also set to race in the 400-meter hurdles final, and Jeanne Le Goff will compete in the triple jump final.
