Texas Football nominated for ESPY Award

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas is well-represented in the 2005 ESPY Awards nominations, which were announced on Friday morning. UT Football and softball's Cat Osterman are among the nominees in the 35 award categories.

The Longhorns football team's last-second 38-37 victory over Michigan in the 2005 Rose Bowl is one of three nominees for 'Best Game'. Also nominated was the Michigan State-Kentucky 'Elite Eight' game in the NCAA men's basketball tournament, which was played at UT's Frank Erwin Center, as well as Game 5 of the American League Championship Series between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.
UT softball pitcher Cat Osterman earned her second nomination as 'Best Female College Athlete.' She was nominated in 2003 for the same award and is the only repeat nominee. Osterman is joined on the ballot by LSU women's basketball player Seimone Augustus, Harvard hockey player Nicole Corriero, UCLA gymnast Kristen Maloney and Notre Dame soccer player Katie Thorlakson.
Additionally, Osterman and the rest of her gold-medal winning USA Softball teammates are up for the award for 'Best Female Olympic Performance.' Natalie Caughlin, who won five medals in swimming, and Carly Patterson, who won the Olympic gymnastics all-around title, are also nominated.
The 13th-annual ESPY Awards Show will be televised on Sunday, July 17 at 8 p.m. Central on ESPN. The ceremony will take place in Los Angeles at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre on Wednesday, July 14, and will be hosted by actor Matthew Perry.
