- Texas is 93-17-3 in season-opening games, 72-2-2 when they open the year at home.
- Eighth-year head coach Mack Brown has won nine of his last 10 and 15 of his last 18 season-opening games.
- Coach Brown is 7-1 in openers at UT and was 8-2 at North Carolina.
- Texas is 39-3 at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium under coach Brown.
- The Longhorns have won 11 straight and 30 of their last 31 games at home.
- Texas has held opponents to under 24 points 38 out of the last 42 games at home.

- True freshmen Henry Melton, Jamaal Charles and Quan Cosby all got their first career touches. Both Charles and Melton also scored their first career rushing touchdowns in the game.
- Texas' 39 points and 400 yards of total offense are it's highest totals in a half since last-year's opener against North Texas when they scored 44 points and had 409 yards of total offense at halftime.
- UT's 26-point second quarter is it's highest second quarter since it scored 27 points against Oklahoma in 2003.
- Texas has produced over 400 yards of total offense in 33 of its last 52 games.
- This was the 20th over 50 -point game in the Mack Brown era.
- Under Mack Brown, Texas is 60-0 when outrushing their opponent and 39-0 when rushing for more than 200 yards.
- Six true freshmen, Melton, Charles, Crosby, Roy Miller, Aaron Lewis and Tarell Brown, all saw action in tonight's game.
- It was the 23rd 500-yard total offensive output game of the Mack Brown era.
- The 418 total yards of rushing was UT's highest output since 2004, when Texas totaled 513 rushing yards against North Texas.
Individual Notes
Vince Young
- With his rushing touchdown in the third quarter, Vince Young now has 26 rushing TDs for his career, which ties the record for rushing TDs by a quarterback. He shares the record with Marty Akins, who played from 1972-75.
- Young threw for 173 yards with 13 completions on 17 attempts, three touchdowns and one interception. His 3,177 total passing yards is good for seventh place all-time at Texas.
- Young's 49 yards on the ground puts his career total at 2,126 yards, good enough for 12th place all-time at Texas for all rushers.
- With his 10-yard touchdown pass to Nate Jones in the second quarter, Young moved to eighth place in UT's career touchdown passes list with 19.
- Young finished the first half by completing his last 10 passes to UT receivers. He also completed 13 passes to seven different receivers.
- The 10 consecutive passes is third all-time at UT, he owns the all-time consecutive passes completed record of 14 set in 2004.
Jamal Charles
- True freshman Jamaal Charles finished the night with 135 yards on 14 attempts, his total was the highest debut game total in Texas history for a freshman. The previous record was owned by Ramonce Taylor in 2004.
- His total of 135 yards is the 11th best freshman rushing performance in UT history.
- Charles scored his first-career touchdown in the first quarter with a 14-yard run of the left tackle.
Henry Melton
- True freshman Henry Melton scored his first-career touchdown in the third quarter with a 14-yard run.
- The rookie scored his second touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter with a 22-yard run through the middle of the Cajun defense.
- He becomes the first freshman Texas running back to have a multiple rushing touchdown game since Selvin Young accomplished the feat in 2001 against Tulane.
David Thomas
- With his second catch of the game, senior David Thomas moved into fifth place all-time at Texas for a tight end with his 51th career reception.
- With two touchdown receptions in the game, Thomas moved into a tie for first place on UT's career TD receptions list for a tight end with 12. He is tied with Pat Fitzgerald who played from 1994-96.
- The game was his second career multiple TD game. His other came against Rice in 2004.
Selvin Young
- Junior Selvin Young scored his 11th career touchdown with a nine-yard scamper in the first quarter. It was his first rushing touchdown since last year's opener versus North Texas.
Aaron Ross
- Junior cornerback Aaron Ross snagged his second career interception in the second quarter. His last interception came against Missouri in 2004.
- Also, Ross had a career-long punt return of 43 yards in the third quarter, his previous high was 20 yards against Colorado in 2004.
Brian Carter
- Senior Brian Carter set a career high with three receptions against the Ragin' Cajuns for 65 yards, matching his previous career total of three receptions in only the first half.
- He had a career-long reception for 40 yards in the second quarter from Vince Young.
Brian Orakpo
- Redshirt freshman Brian Orakpo stripped Louisiana-Lafayette quarterback Jerry Babb for his first career forced fumble with 10:02 left in the first half.
- His strip was the first forced fumble by a freshman since the 2003 Holiday Bowl against Washington State.
Nate Jones
- Sophomore Nate Jones caught his eighth career reception and first career touchdown with a 10-yard pass from Vince Young in the second quarter.
Ramonce Taylor
- Sophomore wide receiver/running back Ramonce Taylor finished the game tying a career-high with two receptions for 23 yards.
- Taylor scored his second career rushing touchdown with a 30-yard reverse in the second quarter, his previous rushing touchdown was a regular season contest against Oklahoma in 2004.
- He finished with 88 all-purpose yards.
Tarell Brown
- Tarell Brown had a career-long 34-yard kick-return, his previous high was 23 yards against Baylor in 2004.
Robert Killebrew
- Redshirt sophomore Robert Killebrew brought down Ragin' Cajun quarterback Michael Desormeaux the second half for his first career sack.
