AUSTIN, Texas-- University of Texas senior Jon Von Letscher (Austin, Texas/McCallum HS) earned the Big 12 Conference's initial award of the 2005 cross country season, garnering the league's Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honor from the league Wednesday.
"It's a nice start to what we hope is a great year from Jon," said UT head men's cross country coach Jason Vigilante. "His commitment to training has paid off, and hopefully this sets the tone for the rest of the season.
Von Letscher collected the top honor by winning the IU Community 5K Run on Sept. 2 at the Indiana Cross Country Course in Bloomington, Ind. Clocking a time of 16:17, Von Letscher defeated a 65-runner co-ed field, which included runners from Indiana University and Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne, as well as athletes from the Bloomington community.
