Dockery to miss remainder of season

AUSTIN, Texas -- A Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test revealed that University of Texas sophomore guard Cedric Dockery (Garland, Texas/Lakeview Centennial) tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the Longhorns 28-10 victory over Oklahoma last Saturday, football athletic trainer Kenny Boyd said. Dockery will undergo reconstructive surgery on the knee in the near future and miss the remainder of the season.
"We're really disappointed for Cedric because he was playing so well," said Mack Brown. "He was getting better every week and is one of the promising young guys on our offensive line. We look forward to him working really hard in his rehab so he can come back and be a veteran leader on our line in 2007."
After playing in nine games as a backup guard on Texas' 2005 Big 12 and National Championship teams, Dockery moved into the starting lineup this season. He started all six games for a Longhorn offense that is averaging nearly 400 yards per game and ranks 19th nationally in rushing (191.7 ypg) and sixth in scoring (39.3 ppg).
"First off, I'm going to make sure I support my teammates throughout the rest of the season, because I know they'll support me as I work my way back," Dockery said. "I'm going to focus on getting my leg strong after surgery and then I'll rehab for five to six months. I'll work as hard as I can and do whatever the training staff tells me during rehab so that I can come back better than ever and ready to help the team next season."
Dockery arrived at Texas after earning second-team All-USA and second-team Texas 5A all-state honors as a high school senior in 2003. He was also recognized as an all-district performer twice during his prep career. Dockery is the brother of former Longhorn All-American and current Washington Redskins offensive lineman Derrick Dockery.
