TEAM NOTES
- Texas is now 23-21-2 all-time in bowl games.
- Texas has won five of its last six bowl games.
- Texas has logged at least 10 wins in each of the last six seasons. The Longhorns are the only NCAA Bowl Division school to accomplish the feat.
- Mack Brown is now 6-3 in bowl games at Texas.
- Mack Brown's six bowl victories trail just the eight posted by Darrell Royal in the school annals.
- Texas had a quarterback eclipse the 2,500-yard plateau in total offense for the fifth time in the last six seasons, including 2001 (Chris Simms - 2,593), 2002 (Chris Simms - 3,083), 2004 (Vince Young - 2,928), 2005 (Vince Young - 4,086) and 2006 (Colt McCoy - 2,740).
- Texas moved to 2-1 all-time in the Alamo Bowl, including a win over SMU in 1993 and loss to Nebraska in the 1999 Big 12 Championship game.
- Texas evened its series record against Iowa at 1-1, with both games coming in bowl games. Iowa had toppled Texas in the 1984 Freedom Bowl.
- The Texas senior class has posted a 44-7 record, falling just one shy of the school record 45 wins set by last year's senior class.
- Texas made its ninth consecutive bowl game, matching the Horns' longest streak that was set from 1977-85.
- Texas appeared in its 46th bowl game, which after this season will be tied for the second highest total in NCAA. Texas and Tennessee will both have made 46 bowl appearances, trailing only Alabama (53).
- Texas had its streak of seasons with a 1,000-yard rusher snapped at 11. It had been the longest active streak and came up just one shy of the NCAA record of 12 set by North Carolina (1973-84).
- Texas has at least one interception in each of the last 10 games.
- Texas moved to 43-6 in the Mack Brown era when passing for at least 250 yards.
- Texas moved to 89-9 in the Mack Brown era when scoring at least 20 points.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
Justin Blalock
- Blalock started his 51st consecutive game, extending his own school record. In UT's regular-season finale, he eclipsed the school record set by Dan Neil (49, 1993-96).
Ryan Bailey
- Bailey's 43-yard field goal with 11:43 remaining in the first quarter marked his sixth consecutive made field goal to begin his career.
- His 43-yard field goal marked a new career long, topping his 26-yarder earlier in the game.
Jamaal Charles
- Charles 72-yard pass reception from Colt McCoy was the fourth-longest TD reception ever by a UT running back and marked his career long.
- The score was his first TD reception of the season and the third of his career. It marked the 21st overall TD of his career.
- Charles 72 receiving yards marked a career high, topping his 69 receiving yards against Ohio State in 2005.
- Charles became the first running back in UT history to record a rush of at least 80 yards and a reception of at least 70 yards during a career.
Quan Cosby
- Cosby has caught a pass in all 13 games this season and 18 straight dating back to last season.
- Cosby has caught at least three passes in six consecutive games.
- Cosby equaled his career high with seven receptions. He has caught seven passes in three of UT's last five games.
- Cosby's 52-yard kickoff return early in the first quarter marked the second longest of his career, trailing just the 78-yard return he registered to open the game against Nebraska this season, and was just the third kickoff return of at least 50 yards by a Texas player in a bowl game trailing just Victor Ike's 93-yard return for a TD vs. Oregon in the 2000 Holiday Bowl and Raymond Clayborn's 96-yard return vs. Colorado in the 1975 Bluebonnet Bowl.
- Cosby set a new career high with his 139 kickoff return yards.
- Cosby set a new career high with his 198 all-purpose yards. His previous career best was 121 yards against Oklahoma State earlier in the season.
Tim Crowder
- Crowder made his 47th consecutive start for Texas, finishing his career third on the Longhorn's all-time list. He trails only Justin Blalock (51) and Dan Neil (49).
Jermichael Finley
- Finley has caught at least two passes in seven consecutive games and 10 of the last 11.
- Finley recorded a new career-high with his eight receptions. He had previously caught four passes in a game on two separate occasions.
- Finley ended the game with 31 receptions on the season, which ranks fourth on UT's single-season list for tight ends, trailing only David Thomas (50 - 2005), Pat Fitzgerald (38 - 1996) and William Harris (34 - 1984).
Marcus Griffith
- Griffith's 11-yard tackle for loss of Dominick Douglass late in the fourth quarter marked just his second TFL of the season.
Greg Johnson
- Johnson's 56-yard punt on the penultimate play of the game marked his long at UT, topping a 54-yard he kicked against Texas A&M.
- Johnson's 56-yard punt was also a UT bowl game record topping the 55-yard punt Russell Erxleben unleashed in the 1975 Bluebonnet Bowl.
Colt McCoy
- McCoy equaled the NCAA freshman record for most TD pass with 29, equaling the mark set by David Neill of Nevada in 1998.
- McCoy reached the 300-yard plateau for the second time in his career, becoming the first freshman in school history to log multiple 300-yard efforts in one season.
- McCoy became the third player in school history to log at least 300 passing yards in a bowl game and ended the contest ranked third on UT's bowl passing chart with his 308 yards, trailing only Major Applewhite who threw for 473 yards in the 2001 Holiday Bowl and Bret Stafford who heaved for 368 yards in the 1987 Bluebonnet Bowl.
- McCoy's 72-yard TD pass to Jamaal Charles in the third quarter marked the fifth longest pass by a UT player in a bowl game and the fourth longest pass by a UT freshman.
- McCoy ended the contest with 2,570 passing yards on the season, setting a UT freshman single-season record. He passed Shea Morenz (2,341) and Major Applewhite (2,453) in the contest.
- McCoy extended his own UT freshman single-season total offense record to 2,740 yards.
- McCoy extended his own UT single-season TD record to 29 with his two in the game.
- McCoy finished the year in fifth place on Texas' single-season passing yardage list with his 2,570 yards. He passed Shea Morenz (2,341 - 1993), Peter Gardere (2,364 - 1992), James Brown (2,447 - 1995), Major Applewhite (2,453 - 1998) and James Brown (2,468 - 1998) in the game.
- McCoy finished the year in fifth place on UT's single-season total offense list with 2,740 yards. He passed Peter Gardere (2,452 - 1992), Bret Stafford (2,472 - 1986), James Brown (2,583 - 1995), James Brown (2,587 - 1996) and Chris Simms (2,593 - 2001).
- McCoy moved into 10th place on UT's career passing yardage list with 2,570. He bumped Paul Campbell (2,408) from the list.
Billy Pittman
- Pittman extended his streak for consecutive games with a reception to 12.
Aaron Ross
- Aaron Ross' interception late in the second quarter was his sixth of the season and the 10th of his career.
- The interception marked Ross' 10th takeaway in the last 10 games, accounting for 45 points.
Limas Sweed
- Sweed's 20-yard TD reception from Colt McCoy with 0:45 remaining in the second quarter was his 12th of the year, tying the single-school record set by Roy Williams in 2002. The TD reception also put Sweed in sole possession of second place on the career TD reception list with 17.
- Sweed has caught a pass in 18 consecutive games.
- Sweed's 39-yard reception early in the second quarter marked his ninth reception of at least 30 yards on the season.
- Sweed finished the game with 1,609 receiving yards, moving into seventh-place on UT's all-time list, passing Johnny Walker (1,567), Lovell Pinkney (1,580) and Johnny 'Lam' Jones (1,603) during the game.
Selvin Young
- Young's 2-yard TD run with 10:48 remaining in the fourth quarter tied him for 10th on UT's career rushing TD list with 25.
- The TD was his sixth rushing TD of the season and the 29th overall TD of his career.
Attendance: 65,875; the largest attendance for any sporting event at the Alamodome
