03.27.2006 | Men's Basketball
AUSTIN, Texas -- Junior P.J. Tucker has been named to The Associated Press' All-America second team, the wire service announced today. Sophomores LaMarcus Aldridge and Daniel Gibson were each named honorable mention All-Americans by The Associated Press.
Tucker becomes the first AP All-American at Texas since T.J. Ford was a first-team selection in 2003. He also is just the fourth AP All-American in school history, joining Ford, Chris Mihm (2000 first team) and B.J. Tyler (1994 third team).
Tucker picks up his third All-America honor of the season, as he was previously named a second-team All-America pick by the United States Basketball Writers Association on March 7 and a third-team All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches on March 13.
The Big 12 Conference Player of the Year, Tucker led the Longhorns in scoring (16.1 ppg), rebounding (9.5 rpg), steals (66) and minutes played (34.5 mpg).
Named to the AP first team were Adam Morrison (Gonzaga), J.J. Redick (Duke), Randy Foye (Villanova), Shelden Williams (Duke) and Brandon Roy (Washington). Tucker was joined on the second team by Dee Brown (Illinois), Rodney Carney (Memphis), Rudy Gay (Connecticut) and Leon Powe (California).
