05.19.2006 | Football
Texas senior Lyle Sendlein has been named to The 2006 Dave Rimington Trophy watch list, the organization has announced. He is one of 39 players on the initial watch list for the award that recognizes the most outstanding center in college football.
Sendlein, who was a member of the watch list last season as well, has played in 36 career games and started all 13 during Texas' 2005 National Championship campaign. As a staple in the middle of UT's offensive line, Sendlein helped Texas to school single-season records in points scored (652) and total yards (6,657). The Longhorns finished 2005 ranked first in scoring offense (50.2 ppg), second in rushing offense (274.9 ypg) and third in total offense (512.1 ypg).
The watch list, which will be updated once prior to the beginning of the season, contains 24 seniors, 10 juniors, five sophomores and only one returning finalist from last season. This is the seventh year the trophy will be awarded and the first time it will be awarded as a regular member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA).
