Colt McCoy named to Scripps Freshman All-America Team

Redshirt freshman QB Colt McCoy has been named to the 2006 Scripps Freshman All-America Team, the Football Writers Association of America has announced. McCoy was on of three unanimous selections to the team, including Wisconsin RB P.J. Hill and Alabama LB Prince Hall.
This marks the sixth consecutive year the FWAA and Scripps have named a team, and Texas has been represented each year. McCoy joins DE Brian Orakpo (2005), DT Frank Okam (2004), OT Justin Blalock (2003), DT Rod Wright (2002), LB Derrick Johnson (2001) and PK Dusty Mangum (2001) as Longhorns having earned the honor.
Also the National Freshman of the Year by The Sporting News, McCoy completed 217-of-318 passes (68.2%) for 2,570 yards (No. 1 on UT's freshman single-season list/No. 5 on the UT's single-season list) and 29 TDs (T-No. 1 on NCAA single-season freshman list/No. 1 on UT's single-season list/No. 6 on UT's career list), while throwing seven INTs. In total, McCoy tallied 2,740 yards of total offense (No. 1 on UT's freshman single-season list/No. 9 on UT's single-season list).
McCoy was a semifinalist for the 2006 Davey O'Brien Award (nation's top QB) and was also named Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year by the conference coaches and The Associated Press, among others.
