NORMAN, Okla. -- Two first-half goals fueled eighth-ranked Texas Soccer past Oklahoma, 4-0, on Sunday, Oct. 28 at John Crain Soccer Field at OU Soccer Complex.
UT junior goalkeeper Dianna Pfenninger (Sugar Land, Texas) achieved two career milestones during the OU contest. She tied Cami Varnadore for first all-time with her 16th shutout. UT's overall career wins leader also moved into second-place in career minutes with 5,281, passing Varnadore's career total of 5,201. Pfenninger entered the season fourth on the minutes played list but moved into third-place after the Texas Tech match on Sept. 30.
Pfenninger registered two saves and picked up her fifth shutout of the season.
Redshirt sophomore Stephanie Gibson (Richmond Hills, Ontario, Canada) and freshman Kate Nicholson (Columbia, Md.) put two points on the board for the first time in their respective careers. Sophomore forward Emily Anderson (Austin, Texas) netted her second score of the season while NSCAA All-American senior forward Kelsey Carpenter (Allen, Texas) tallied her first goal and assist in conference play this season.
With the win, Texas Soccer moves to 12-3-3 and 5-3-2 in the Big 12. Oklahoma drops to 6-9-3s and 2-6-1 in conference play.
During UT's first scoring play, junior midfielder Courtney Gaines (Sugar Land, Texas) passed to freshman Brooke Lee (Mesquite, Texas) on the right flank. Lee served the ball into the six-yard box before Gibson put it away, 30 minutes, 10 seconds into the match.
Nicholson extended the lead to 2-0 with her first shot and goal of the year at 42:32. The first-year Longhorn received the ball from fellow rookie Alisha Ortiz (Highland Village, Texas) from 10-yards out to finish the scoring opportunity. Ortiz is second on the team this season in assists with five.
After the half, Anderson put away a pass from Carpenter at 46:48. Carpenter fed Anderson from the 18-yard line for Carpenter's first assist this year in conference play.
Carpenter added the fourth Longhorn goal in the final minute of the match. She scored on a pass from Texas scoring leader, freshman Niki Arlitt (Houston, Texas) at 89:32.
