AUSTIN, Texas -- UT sophomore Brittany Sacco's fourth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke highlighted day two for Texas Friday evening at the American Short Course Championships at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
Sacco (Dallas, Texas), who landed her spot in the evening finals by clocking 1 minute, 7 seconds in the 100 breaststroke preliminary round, placed fourth by lowering her time to 1:05.66.
Sophomore Lindsay Voyles (Austin, Texas) added a sixth-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 55.87. Former Longhorn All-Americans Elizabeth Wycliffe and Tanica Jamison took second and fourth, respectively, in 54.12 and 54.22. Former Olympic gold medalist Kirsty Coventry, now competing for Longhorn Aquatics, tied Wycliffe for second after winning the first event of the night, the 400 individual medley, in 4:09.42.
Kate Ziegler, who holds several American distance records, took the 200 freestyle in 1:46.17. Coventry took second in 1:47.41 while Jamison placed third in 1:47.51. Ziegler likely will chase her American record in the 1,650-yard freestyle Saturday evening, and, in doing so, will pursue Janet Evans' pool record at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
Ziegler will represent Team USA next month at the FINA World Championships in Melbourne, Australia.
