AUSTIN, Texas -- Typically, UT events that take place in the Frank Erwin Center surround the Longhorns' men's and women's basketball programs. This Friday, March 23, will be different as Texas women's head track and field coach Bev Kearney will be the keynote speaker and the 2007 "Honoree Woman of Distinction" for the Seventh Annual H-E-B Annual Women of Distinction Luncheon.
The luncheon takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT in the Lone Star Room at the Frank Erwin Center.
Kearney will be honored for her direct impact on the women's athletics program at Texas, and her contributions to the Austin, collegiate, and track and field communities.
Earlier this week, the City of Tempe and the Tempe Sports Authority honored Kearney at the 14th Annual Gene Autry Courage Awards. The honor is given annually to deserving men and women in sports who have demonstrated heroism in the face of difficulty or danger. Past recipients of the Autry award include former NBA player Sean Elliot, Olympian Gail Devers and former Yale football player Jim McLaren.
