Eitel holds second place as Ahetz-Etcheber closes day one in ninth.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Track & Field's Tabea Eitel sits in second place in the heptathlon and Iana Ahetz-Etcheber stands ninth after the opening day at the 98th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Truist on Wednesday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Eitel totaled 3,414 points through four events, while Ahetz-Etcheber posted 3,263 points to keep both Longhorns in the top 10 heading into the final day of competition.
Competition opened with the 100-meter hurdles, where Eitel ran 14.03 seconds to score 974 points and place sixth after the first event. Ahetz-Etcheber followed with a time of 14.12 to score 961 points and was in 10th place.
Ahetz-Etcheber made a significant move in the high jump, clearing 1.73m (5-8) to record the second-best mark of the day. She added 891 points to climb into second place overall with 1,852 points. Eitel cleared 1.70m (5-7) to add 810 points and move into third with 1,829 points.
Eitel continued her strong showing in the shot put with a throw of 12.89m (42-3.50), the second-best mark of the event, to move into second place overall. Ahetz-Etcheber recorded a mark of 10.01m (32-10.25) and stood eighth after three events.
In the 200 meters, Eitel ran 25.24 to close day one in second place with 3,414 points. Ahetz-Etcheber finished in 25.06 and sits ninth with 3,263 points.
The heptathlon resumes Thursday at 10 a.m. to conclude the multis competition.
Day two will also feature a full schedule of events. On the track, competition includes the women's 400-meter hurdles, men's and women's 800 meters and 1,500 meters, the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase and both 5,000-meter races. In the field, events include the men's hammer throw, men's and women's pole vault and the men's B section javelin.
