DALLAS -- Former Longhorns offensive tackle and two-time consensus All-American Jerry Sisemore was inducted into the AT&T Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Dallas on Tuesday, April 17. Sisemore was one of six individuals honored at the ceremony on the steps of the Cotton Bowl and became the ninth Longhorn to be inducted into the prestigious group.
"I was lucky enough to play in three Cotton Bowls," said Sisemore. "Back when I played, if you won the Southwest Conference, you played in the Cotton Bowl. So, for us, it was the goal at the beginning of each season."
Sisemore, a three-year letterman from 1971-73, helped Texas to a 28-5 record, three consecutive league championships and led Texas to a 1973 Cotton Bowl victory over Alabama. He went on to play 12 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, who drafted him with the third overall pick in 1973, and appeared in two Pro Bowls.
Joining Sisemore and his family at the ceremony were his head coach at Texas and fellow Cotton Bowl Hall of Famer Darrell Royal, fellow Longhorns offensive lineman David McWilliams and current UT assistant coaches Bruce Chambers and Mac McWhorter.
"Jerry had unusual speed for a lineman, plus he was so large," Royal said. "He was an outstanding player for us and is one of the great linemen not only in Texas history, but in college football history."
The Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame also inducted long-time CBAA photographer Brad Bradley, Oklahoma A&M tailback Bob Fenimore, USC wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, Texas A&M linebacker Dat Nguyen and former Notre Dame head coach Ara Parseghian.
A 35-member judging committee comprised of media representatives and athletic administrators voted from a list of 52 original nominees that included players, coaches, bowl administrators and others who have made special contributions to the Classic.
