Women's Tennis standout Dizdar earns elite NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

INDIANAPOLIS -- Former University of Texas tennis standout Petra Dizdar was honored Tuesday with a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, as announced by the NCAA national office.
Dizdar, a native of Split, Croatia, is one of 58 student-athletes (29 male, 29 female) honored from across all three NCAA Divisions (I, II and III) who participated in one of 10 spring sports this academic year. Each recipient will receive a postgraduate scholarships of $7,500. The spring recipients were selected from the following 10 sports: baseball, men's and women's golf, men's lacrosse, women's rowing, softball, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's outdoor track and field.
A four-year standout for the Longhorns and an All-Big 12 performer in both singles and doubles, Dizdar graduated in May as a public relations major carrying 3.53 GPA. Dizdar also was a Academic All-Big 12 and ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District First Team honoree She has been accepted into UT's prestigious LBJ School of Public Affairs for graduate studies in international business, and will begin her studies in September.
In May, Dizdar also was awarded a $7,500 Big 12 Conference Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarship.
At the UT Women's Athletics banquet this spring, Dizdar was awarded the elite Texas Exes Lifetime Award, given to one female and one male each year for outstanding leadership and academic and athletic success, with recipients gaining life-time membership into the Texas Exes Association.
With Dizdar's selection as a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient, student-athletes from The University of Texas have now earned a total of 29 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships. Last year, Longhorn softball national player of the year Cat Osterman and football's Karim Meijer earned NCAA postgrad scholarships.
To qualify for an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, a student-athlete must have an overall grade-point average of 3.200 (on a 4.000 scale) or its equivalent; must have performed with distinction as a member of a varsity team; and must intend to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student.
In addition to the spring sport honorees, the NCAA also awards 116 postgraduate scholarships to student-athletes participating in fall and winter sports in which the NCAA conducts championships or participates in as an emerging sport, for a total of 174 postgraduate scholarships annually.
