AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 8 University of Texas Soccer team recorded its 10th shutout of the season after playing Baylor to a 0-0 double overtime tie Friday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Longhorns tied the single-season shutout record set in 2006 and 2007. UT (12-2-4, 5-2-3) finished the season sixth in the Big 12 and will face No. 3 seed Missouri in the 2008 Big 12 Championship at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5.
After a first half that saw no shots on goal by either team, UT got its offense rolling the 66th minute when the Horns earned their first corner of the half. Freshman Leah Payne's shot off the set piece was blocked by the Baylor defense. Just a few seconds later, Texas attacked again when Kasey Moore dribbled the ball up the left side but sent her shot just wide of the left post.
Texas kept up the pressure on the Baylor defense as seniors Jill Gilbeau and Moore had shots over the next two minutes. Freshman Kylie Doniak gave UT another good look with 10 minutes remaining, but her shot from over 20 yards out sailed just over the crossbar.
With five minutes left in regulation Texas produced a flurry of shots yet none were able to find the back of the net. First freshman Lucy Keith got her head on a corner kick from Courtney Goodson but her shot bounced off the crossbar to sophomore Niki Arlitt. Arlitt's subsequent shot in the crowded Baylor box deflected off the Bear defense to Moore who sent the ball just a little too high, also hitting the cross bar.
The Longhorns recorded 15 shots in the second half while holding Baylor to zero. After the end of regulation, the match headed into its first extra period. Junior Emily Anderson and Kylie Doniak forced BU keeper Gianna Quintana to make a pair of saves and send the game to another set of extra minutes.
This time, Gilbeau and Anderson got looks but weren't able to connect giving the Longhorns their fourth tie of the season.
Texas starts its postseason run at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5 when it faces third-seeded Missouri in San Antonio at the 2008 Big 12 Soccer Championship.

POSTMATCH QUOTES
SENIOR GOALKEEPER Dianna Pfenninger
On how the team will go from this game to the Big 12 Championship: We just have to get our momentum back, work hard in training and go in to the Big 12 Tournament with determination that we are going to score goals and keep the other team out of our net and settle for nothing less.
On tonight game: I think our mentality had a huge impact on how it turned out because we weren't playing as though mentally we were in game, and we were also a little unlucky, to hit the crossbar four consecutive times is just rotten luck.
On going into the Big 12 Tournament next week: Big 12 Tournaments are always a blast. The competition is great because you either lose or go home, so you give it all you have. I am really excited. San Antonio has a great facility and we always get a big crowd out there, so it will be fun.
HEAD COACH Chris Petrucelli
On tonight's game: We did some good things defensively out there tonight. The way we performed in the first half was a little disappointing though and I would have liked for us to end on a win.
On going into the Big 12 Tournament: Where a team is seeded in the bracket is not that important. We certainly need more work on our attack. We created enough tonight score a goal, but we just couldn't get through. We have got to get better about going forward.
SENIOR DEFENDER Kasey Moore
On the season and game: We have done some great things this season. I think this team can do great things as long as we pick up our intensity. Tonight was just unfortunate. We just didn't mentally show up for the game.
On another defensive shutout: Our defense did great and I think it continues our tradition as a great defensive team, when we finish our season with ten shutouts. We haven't lost at home since my sophomore year so that's something I'm really proud of.
On the Big 12 Championship: I think we've come a long way over the last three years, so I think we deserve another title, and I think we can earn it.
