Women's Cross Country captures team title at Greater Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Texas women's cross country team captured its second team title of the 2008 season at the Greater Louisville Classic Saturday morning in Louisville, Ky. The Longhorns tallied 79 points after placing four runners in the top 25 to earn their first title since winning the season-opening Texas State Invitational (Sept. 6).
Junior Betzy Jimenez, competing in her first race of the season, paced the Horns with a third-place finish. Jimenez clocked in at a career-best time of 17:07.98. Senior Larkin Geyer also recorded her fastest time as a Longhorn, 17:38.28, to finish 11th.
Juniors Lauren Salisbury (17:54.86) and Alison Mendez (18:09.61) placed in the top 25, crossing the finish line in 18th and 25th, respectively. Both harriers also set new career marks in the 5K with their times.
Rounding out the Longhorn scoring contingent were freshmen Julie Amthor (18:10.94), Laleh Mojtabaeezamani (18:13.01) and Mia Behm (18:18.58). The newcomer trio placed 28th, 30th and 33rd, respectively, and earned points for UT for the third-straight meet.
The Longhorns head to the Chili Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., on Oct. 18 for their final meet before the Big 12 Championships, held in Ames, Iowa on Nov. 1.
