Men's Cross Country places sixth at Big 12 Championship

AMES, Iowa -- The Texas men's cross country team notched a sixth-place showing at the Big 12 Championship, which were held on Saturday at the Iowa State Cross Country Course. No. 3 Oklahoma State took the event with 26 points, while the Horns ended with 179 points.
Texas was led by graduate student Victor Gras (Paris, France), who rounded the 8,000-meter course in 25:09.43 and finished 24th overall. Junior Habben Berhane (Dallas, Texas) was the next Longhorn to cross the line, placing 29th in 25:18.08. Senior Jake Morse (25:27.68) and freshman Rory Tunningley (25:39.08) were the third and fourth scorers for the Horns, respectively, and freshman Brock Simmons (25:49.38) rounded out the scoring for UT.
Oklahoma State snapped Colorado's 12-year conference championship win streak and became just the second men's team to win the team title. The Cowboys bested the No. 17 Buffaloes, who finished with 66 points. No. 22 Iowa State ended up placing third with a very close 67-point effort. No. 18 Texas A&M finished fourth with 95 points, while Missouri rounded out the top five by capturing fifth place with 155 points.
The Longhorns will be able to stay close to home as they travel next to Waco, Texas for the NCAA South Central Region Championship. The race will be held at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course on Saturday, November 15.
