Men's Cross Country finishes fourth at NCAA South Central Region Championship

WACO, Texas -- The Texas men's cross country squad earned a fourth-place finish at the 2008 NCAA South Central Region Championship, held at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco, Texas on Saturday, Nov. 15.
No. 22 Texas A&M captured the regional title with 39 points, while No. 24 Arkansas finished second with 44 points. Both teams earned the right to advance to the 2008 NCAA Championships by finishing in the top two. Texas placed fourth by accumulating 112 points, behind third-place finisher Lamar with 74 points. Rice ended the day with 164 points to round out the top five in team scoring.
The Longhorns were led by senior Jake Morse, who rounded the 10,000-meter course in 30:36.90 to earn a fifth-place individual finish. Morse advanced individually to the NCAA Championships and earned All-Region honors for his performance.
Junior Habben Berhane was next to cross the tape for Texas, placing 22nd overall in 31:42.90, and was followed by graduate student Victor Gras (31:56.20) in 26th position. Freshmen Brian Rhodes-Devey (32:24.20) and Brock Simmons (32:28.70) rounded out the scoring for Texas, placing 35th and 37th, respectively.
Morse will travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for the NCAA Championships to be held on Monday, Nov. 24 on the campus of Indiana State University.
