Track & Field opens Clyde Hart Classic with strong day one

Longhorns secure two event wins on opening day in Waco.
WACO, Texas – Texas Track & Field opened competition Friday at the Clyde Hart Classic at Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium with multiple top finishes and two event victories.
Texas' two event victories were headlined by freshman Mathis Vaitulukina, who won the men's long jump with a personal-best leap of 7.78 meters (25-6.25).
On the track, Texas dominated the men's 200 meters, securing the event win and runner-up finish as Neo Modibe clocked 20.79 seconds, followed by Troy Mason in 20.96. Jonathan Hertwig-Odegaard also competed, clocking 21.93.
Carleta Bernard led the way in the women's 200 meters, finishing third overall and as the top collegiate runner with a time of 22.91. Abigail Wolfe added a fifth-place finish in 23.37, followed by Bayleigh Minor (17th, 23.95), Naomi London (18th, 23.99), Ramiah Elliott (23rd, 24.29) and Holly Okuku (25th, 24.33).
In the field events, Sam Abati placed second in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 5.38m (17-7.75), while Sophia Kowalski recorded the fifth-best mark in the women's competition at 3.92m (12-10.25).
Competition concludes Saturday, beginning with Iana Ahetz-Etcheber and Tabea Eitel in the women's javelin at 11 a.m.
