AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Brittainey Raven scored Texas' first 12 points and finished with 20 and the No. 13 Longhorns routed No. 25 Old Dominion 78-44 on Monday night to win the World Vision Classic.
Kathleen Nash finished with 15 points and had eight rebounds for Texas (3-0). She scored on a layup midway through the first half to tie the game 20-20. Nash was fouled during the shot, and made the free throw to complete the three-point play, and give the Longhorns their first lead of the game.
The Lady Monarchs (2-1) jumped out to an early lead thanks to leading scorer Tiffany Green, who finished with 16 points. The lead was short-lived as Texas rallied and closed out the half on a 23-6 run, holding Old Dominion to just three points in the final 11 minutes of the half.

HEAD COACH Gail Goestenkors Opening statement: I'm just really proud of the team. This was a great test for us and we understand Old Dominion's tradition. They're used to winning and they expect to win. This was a really important game for us to measure where we are and where we need to be. I thought we did a tremendous job of being aggressive and staying aggressive. I was most pleased with our rebounding effort. We were plus 19 on the boards. They're a team that dominates on the boards and they have been plus 11 so far. But year in and year out, you can always count on Old Dominion to dominate on the boards. So for us to be plus 19, I thought that was just a tremendous effort. I felt like it was a great team effort. I thought the bench came in and gave us great focus and intensity. They really just lifted us up. Our second wave really turned the game around for us.
On keeping Old Dominion scoreless for over eight minutes in the first half: They were a little fatigued and we also were able to get some of their key players in foul trouble in the first half. So they had some of their key players sitting on the bench. Like I said, we continually had fresh legs all night long, so I think our depth was definitely a factor.
On the performance by the bench: I think anybody on our bench could really be starting for us. That's a great feeling as a coach and for the players as well. We talked all preseason about playing as hard as you can and for as long as you can, and then we'll get a sub in and they'll pick it up. Last year, we didn't have the depth and I felt like we coasted at times. There's no coasting here. If we feel like you're coasting, we're going to sub you out anyways. I think there's a lot of confidence coming off of the bench and our freshmen are not playing like freshmen, which is really important for us.
JUNIOR GUARD Brittainey Raven On her hot start to the game: Like anybody on our team, I started off hot and Carla [Cortijo] got me the ball in transition. When I got a little fatigued, coach subbed me out, and the bench came in and did a good job. They continued to get defensive stops and they continued to score.
SOPHOMORE GUARD Kathleen Nash
On the importance of the bench: I think our bench is very important because if our starters get off to a slow start, we expect them to pick it up. But, if the starters do start out strong, we expect the subs to come in and to keep that tempo up. I think our subs are a really important part of our team this year, because we need more subs this year because we're playing so much harder.
FRESHMAN GUARD Yvonne Anderson On the role of the bench: Obviously, we had to get everybody involved. Coming off of the bench, we are supposed to keep the intensity high, and the intensity started off a little low tonight. Our job is to make it a little higher. I'm out there to take control of the game and try to take the lead, and that's what we did tonight.
