No. 5 Men's Tennis pounds No. 19 Michigan, 6-1

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 5 Texas (10-1) took the doubles point and captured five of six singles matches on its way to a 6-1 win over No. 19 Michigan (6-2) Tuesday evening at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
"It was nice to play at home for a change," said UT coach Michael Center. "The conditions were a little tough, but our guys handled it. It was hard to play good tennis, but we got the job done. We've got another tough weekend with Virginia and Duke, and we feel good about where we are."
Texas secured the doubles point with wins at the first and third positions. Freshmen Ed Corrie and Kellen Damico tallied an 8-4 win over Matko Maravic and George Navas at the first slot, and freshmen Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala nailed down the point with an 8-4 win at the third position over Andrew Mazlin and Chris Madden.
Zavala pushed the Texas lead to 2-0 with a decisive 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 6 over Peter Aarts, and Kutrovsky extended the cushion to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 over Jason Jung. Corrie clinched the win for Texas with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Mike Sroczynski at third singles.
Luis Diaz Barriga tacked on to the Longhorns' lead with a 6-4, 7-5 win at fourth singles over Mazlin, and Miguel Reyes Varela saved four match points and prevailed in a third-set match tiebreak over Madden to chalk up the final point for the Longhorns.
Texas awaits No. 1 Virginia on Friday, Feb. 29 in Charlottesville, Va.
