LINCOLN, Neb. -- The No. 12 Texas Women's Track and Field team finished fourth at the 2008 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Longhorns scored 79 points behind meet champion Texas A&M (119.25 points), second-place and host-school Nebraska (95) and third-place Kansas (93).
Senior All-American Temeka Kincy (Indianapolis, Ind.) led all individual finishers on Saturday with a runner-up performance in the 800. The fourth-year Longhorn posted a time of 2:08.94 for eight points towards the team's score.
She returned as the final leg of the runner-up 4x400-meter relay that shaved nearly two seconds off its season-best time, clocking 3:36.60.
Juniors Alexandria Anderson (Chicago, Ill.) and Katara Rosby (Baton Rouge, La.) ran the first two 400-meter segments, giving UT the lead from the start. Freshman Bianca Knight (Ridgeland, Miss.) held the lead during the third leg before handing off to Kincy for the final portion of the race. Kincy maintained UT's lead but was passed at the line by defending champion Texas A&M for the win.
Junior Katara Rosby and freshman Chantel Malone finished third in the 1,000-meter run, 60-meter dash and the triple jump. Rosby (Baton Rouge, La.) earned her fourth All-Big 12 honor, running 2:48.95 for six points. Malone (Road Town, British Virgin Islands) set a new personal best mark in the triple jump, landing in 42-6.75 (12.97m) on her first jump in the finals round and fourth overall attempt. She met the NCAA provisional standard of 41-6 (12.65m) and her mark is in the top 15 in the nation this year.
Knight earned two individual All-Big 12 honors in her first conference championship. Knight registered her second-fastest time of the season (7.26) for third in the 60-meter. She followed that with a fifth-place finish in the 200 (23.21 seconds). The 200-meter dash saw champion Porscha Lucas (Texas A&M) tie the Big 12 record, four runners meet the NCAA automatic time of 23.20 and three post NCAA provisional marks.
Fellow sprinter Anderson added two individual all-conference honors to her impressive conference resume. By far her strongest event of the day, Anderson met the NCAA automatic qualifier of 23.20 with a career-best time of 23.09 in the 200. She also added a fourth-place finish in the 60 (7.27 seconds).
Middle distance runners Rosby and sophomore Betzy Jimenez (Hereford, Texas) added to Texas' scoring effort in the 1,000-meter and mile run, respectively. Rosby crossed the line third in 2:48.95 and Jimenez finished in fifth-place in 4:50.87.
Thrower Jordyn Brown (Mesquite, Texas) made the All-Big 12 conference team, scoring five points in a career-best performance in the shot put. Brown tossed 53-6.5 (16.32m).
Senior Alandra Sherman (Houston, Texas) started day-two scoring for Texas. She cleared each barrier in the 60-meter hurdle in 8.52 for sixth place and three points. The Longhorns head to Last Chance meets next weekend (March 7-8) before traveling to Fayetteville, Ark., for the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Randal Tyson Track Center from Friday-Saturday, March 14-15.

POSTMEET QUOTES
ASSISTANT COACH Rose Brimmer
On Chantel Malone's performance in the triple jump: Chantel is a competitor and she has so much upside. In the beginning, the first jump she took was awful. She wasn't aggressive and hitting the boards. After her second jump, she still wasn't in the finals. I let her know that If she wanted to make the final, she had to jump for it. On her third attempt, Chantel moved up to seventh. I called [head coach] Bev {Kearney] who said to go for it. We didn't care if she scratched on all three of her attempts. We just wanted her to realize that she had a lot left in her. She realized it and almost cleared 13-meters, which is huge for her.
On shifting gears for nationals and the beginning of the outdoor season: We definitely have to change our focus. We came in knowing that we had a shot at the conference championship. We couldn't afford any errors. I think our team learned what it takes to win, and they will bring that into nationals and the outdoor season. When you go to conference and national championships, you have to increase your focus because the level of intensity triples.
JUNIOR Katara Rosby
On her performance as a leg of the 4x400-meter relay: I had to do my best to be in a position to win. We dropped our time almost two seconds which is a great improvement from our time at Arkansas. We still have room for more and lots of things to work on for the next competition.
SENIOR Temeka Kincy
On her runner-up finish in the 800-meter: In the 800, I got boxed in during the first 300-meters. I had to push through the inside which made running that much harder. Looking back, I wished I started a little faster.
