Softball falls to No. 16 Hawaii, 8-0

HONOLULU -- The Texas Softball dropped its second game of the Spring Fling Tournament, Thursday night falling to No. 16 Hawaii, 8-0 in the nightcap of its twinbill. The loss dropped Texas to 1-2 at the tourney and 12-10-1 on the year, while Hawaii improved to 2-0 at the Spring Fling and 19-6 on the season.
Longhorns' starter Brittany Barnhill (2-5) was saddled with the loss, surrendering eight runs -- two earned -- on seven hits in 3.2 innings of work. Hawaii righthander Courtney Baughman (10-3) earned the victory for the Rainbow Wahine, throwing 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and fanning five. The Longhorns committed five errors in the loss and allowed seven hits.
Texas sophomore designated player Tallie Thrasher headlined the Horns' offense on the night, registering two hits, while Barnhill posted one hit.
Hawaii jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the second inning, touching Barnhill for four unearned runs. The Rainbow Wahine registered two runs on a RBI single by Valana Manuma and then plated two more runs on an RBI double by Tanisha Milca.
The Rainbow Wahine tacked on four more tallies in the fourth, sending all nine batters to the plate, registering three hits and taking advantage of two UT errors. Malamaisaua Manuma started the inning with a single through the middle and advanced on Valana Manuma's single to centerfield. Milca followed with a walk and both Manama's scored on Kaulana Gould's two-run single. Texas then committed consecutive errors in the infield, allowing two more runs to come home, giving Hawaii an 8-0 edge.
Texas returns to action at 5 p.m. Central on Friday, March 14 when it takes on Maine.
