No. 17 Women's Tennis falls to No. 10 USC, 5-2

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 17 Texas (7-3) collected the doubles point and picked up a singles win from sophomore Stephanie Davison, but No. 10 USC (12-4) posted a 5-2 victory over the Longhorns Wednesday afternoon at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Texas swept the doubles session to assume a 1-0 lead. Junior Marija Milic and sophomore Vanja Corovic posted an 8-4 win at first doubles over Amanda Fink and Gabriela Niculescu, and the Horns nailed down the doubles point when sophomore Stephanie Davison and freshman Caroline Larsson dealt Sarah Fansler and Lindsey Kinstler an 8-5 loss at third doubles.
UT completed the doubles sweep when senior Courtney Zauft and freshman Maggie Mello defeated Lindsey Nelson and Cristala Andrews by an 8-6 count at second doubles.
Texas pushed its lead to 2-0 when Davison made short work of USC's Fansler, winning by a 6-1, 6-2 count at third singles. However, the Trojans took the remaining five singles matches on their way to the 5-2 win. USC picked up wins from Niculescu, Nelson, and Maria Sanchez before getting the clinching point from Leyla Entekhabi at sixth singles.
Texas resumes competition on Saturday, March 22 when it hosts No. 42 Sacramento State at noon Central.
