No. 17 Women's Tennis overpowers Sacramento State, 6-1

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 17 Texas (8-3) swept the doubles session and took five of six singles matches on its way to a 6-1 victory over No. 42 Sacramento State Saturday afternoon at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Texas opened with a win at second doubles, as freshman Maggie Mello and senior Courtney Zauft scored an 8-4 win over Luba Schifris and Karina Jarlkaganova. UT sealed the doubles point as sophomore Vanja Corovic and junior Marija Milic tallied an 8-3 win at first doubles over Aileen Tsan and Anastassia Lyssenko. The Longhorns wrapped up the doubles sweep when sophomore Stephanie Davison and freshman Caroline Larsson teamed up for an 8-6 win at third doubles over Melissa Valenzuela and Joyce Martinez.
Texas tacked on to its lead when Corovic handily defeated Valenzuela at first singles, 6-2, 6-0. Sophomore Sarah Lancaster pushed the lead to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Martinez at sixth singles, and after the Hornets registered a win at fourth singles, the Longhorns clinched the win as Larsson dealt Tsan a 6-2, 6-4 defeat at fifth singles.
Davison outlasted Sacramento State's Schifris in three sets, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (16-14) at third singles, and Zauft finished off the Texas victory with a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) win at second singles over Lyssenko.
Texas returns to action on Tuesday, March 25 when it hosts No. 1 Northwestern at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m. Central.
