No. 4 Men's Tennis pounds Old Dominion, 6-1

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 4 Texas (12-2) took the doubles point and overpowered No. 63 Old Dominion in the singles session, winning five of six matches on its way to a 6-1 win over the Monarchs Wednesday evening at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
"Old Dominion deserves a lot of credit tonight," UT coach Michael Center said. "They played us really tough, and I was pleased with the way Milan Mihailovic fought back tonight to clinch the match."
UT's 44th-ranked tandem of junior Miguel Reyes Varela and Luis Diaz Barriga opened with an 8-5 win at first doubles over Aleksandr Seleznev and Eidy Ibarashi, and the Longhorns clinched the doubles point when senior Bernhard Deussner and sophomore Jon Wiegand defeated Matt Fawcett and Timo Gehrke, 8-4 at the third slot.
Texas pushed its lead to 2-0 when sophomore Rook Schellenberg defeated Yakov Diskin by a 6-0, 6-4 count at fifth singles, and the Longhorns assumed a 3-0 lead when sophomore Dimitar Kutrovsky posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at the first slot over Andrew Seleznev. The Monarchs posted a win at sixth singles, but Texas nailed down the win at third singles when senior Milan Mihailovic outlasted Rodrigo Souza in three sets, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.
Freshman Ed Corrie knocked off Eidy Igarashi at second singles in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, and senior Hubert Chodkiewicz topped the Monarchs' Matt Fawcett at fourth singles, 7-6, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6).
Texas returns to action on Saturday, March 8 when it hosts No. 16 Florida State at 1 p.m. Central.
