No. 4 Men's Tennis overpowers No. 16 Florida State, 6-1

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 4 Texas (13-2) swept the doubles session and overpowered No. 16 Florida State (9-2) in singles play, winning five of six matches en route to a 6-1 win over the Seminoles Saturday afternoon at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
The Seminoles challenged the Longhorns throughout the doubles session, but Texas pulled away late to victories at all three positions. Freshmen Kellen Damico and Ed Corrie posted an 8-5 win at the first slot over FSU's 30th-ranked Jean-Yves Aubone and Clint Bowles, and Texas clinched the doubles point when sophomores Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala defeated Brad Mixson and Andrew Bailey by an 8-6 margin at third doubles.
UT completed the doubles sweep at the second slot, where senior Luis Diaz Barriga and junior Miguel Reyes Varela posted an 8-6 win over Sam Chang and Maciek Sykut.
Texas extended its lead to 2-0 when Kutrovsky dealt the 24th-ranked Aubone a 6-3, 6-3 defeat at the first slot. The Seminoles got on the board when Bowles knocked off Corrie by a 6-2, 6-2 count at second singles, but Texas pushed its lead to 3-1 behind a 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 win from Diaz Barriga at fourth singles. The Longhorns clinched the match at third singles when Damico notched a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 win over Chang.
Zavala fought off match points against Mixson in the second set and took the ensuing tiebreaker before winning the match tiebreak to give Texas a 5-1 lead. Mihailovic closed out the match at fifth singles with a 7-6 (0), 7-5 win over Sykut.
