Women's Golf sits in fourth after opening round at Big 12 Championship

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Led by sophomore Shannon Fish's five-over 77, Texas shot a 33-over 321 to end the opening round in fourth place Friday afternoon at the 2008 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship at the par 72, 6,210-yard Karsten Creek Golf Club.
Texas is tied for fourth after round one, as host Oklahoma State leads the 54-hole event with a 15-over 303 on the day. Texas A&M is in second with a 315, and Missouri is in third after shooting a 317 on the day.
Fish (Spring, Texas) opened with a 37 on the front nine with one birdie before closing with a 40 on the back nine. Fish, Texas' top finisher at the 2007 Big 12 Championship, is tied for fourth place at five-over par with 36 holes remaining. Senior Ashley Rollins (Austin, Texas) carded a 39 on both the front nine and the back nine to end round one with a six-over 78. Rollins is tied for eighth place heading into Saturday's second round.
Junior Kristin Walla (Aspen, Colo.) opened with a 44 on the front nine before finishing strong on the back with a 38, ending the day tied for 23rd place with a 10-over 82. Senior Julia Best shot a 12-over 84 in the first round and is tied for 33rd place, and junior Caney Hines (San Antonio, Texas) finished with a 19-over 91 in the opening round and is tied for 55th place.
Texas tees off in Saturday's second round at 9 a.m. Central.
