DES MOINES, Iowa -- University of Texas junior sprinter Alex Anderson placed sixth in the women's 100-meter finals, Friday night at the NCAA Women's Track and Field Championships. Anderson finished sixth and garnered 100-meter All-America honors for the second straight year. The four-day event is being held Wednesday, June 11 through Saturday, June 14 at the Jim Duncan Track on the campus of Drake University. Anderson will compete in the women's 200-meter final on Saturday at 3:37 p.m. Central.
Anderson (Chicago, Ill.) clocked a time of 11.44 in the race after registering a time of 11.42 in the 2007 championship. Louisiana State senior Kelly-Ann Baptiste finished first, posting a time of 11.20, while Texas A&M senior Simone Facey finished second (11.27), Florida senior Lakecia Facey placed third (11.35), Kansas senior Nickesha Anderson finished fourth (11.37) and USC senior Jessica Onyepunuka narrowly edged Anderson for fifth place (11.43).

TEXAS POST-MEET QUOTES
HEAD COACH BEV KEARNEY
On Anderson's performance: Alex is one of the best sprinters in the country and for her to finish sixth in this meet does not make sense to me. She did not face anyone tonight that she has not beaten earlier this year, but what matters is what you do when it counts. Alex just did not get it done when it counted.
On what Anderson needs to do in preparation for Saturday's 200 meters: She needs to really toughen up tomorrow. At this point there is nothing that anybody can do for her, she just has to want it for herself. The athletes that are winning are running with the passion necessary to be successful.
JUNIOR Alexandria Anderson
On the race: I ran the best race that I could run today. I was running against a very good field. I do not want to discredit anything that any of the other girls did because it is a field that is full of talented runners. Now I need to get ready for the 200 meters tomorrow and work hard to really run my race.
