TEAM NOTES
- Texas improved to 96-17-3 (.841) all-time in season-openers.
- Texas improved to 75-7-2 (.905) when opening the season at home.
- Texas scored 50 or more points for the 34th time since Mack Brown's arrival.
- Texas has produced at least 400 yards of total offense in 60 of its last 91 games and has registered 200 yards both passing and rushing 41 times under Mack Brown and Greg Davis.
- Since Mack Brown took over in 1998, UT has produced 35 games with 500 or more yards of total offense (there are only 58 of them in the 116 years of Texas football).
- Texas has scored 50 or more points in a game to open the year for the fifth time in the last six seasons. The Longhorns scored 66 against New Mexico State in 2003, 65 against North Texas in 2004, 60 against Louisiana-Lafayette in 2005, 56 against North Texas in 2006 and 21 against Arkansas State in 2007.
- Texas improved to 53-6 (.898) in home games during the Mack Brown era.
- Texas improved to 89-3 (.967) when outrushing an opponent in the Mack Brown era.
- Texas improved to 77-15 (.837) when passing for more than 200 yards in the Mack Brown era.
- Texas improved to 77-7 (.917) when scoring first in the Mack Brown era.
- Texas improved to 100-12 (.893) when scoring more than 20 points in the Mack Brown era.
- Texas improved to 59-0 (1.000) when rushing for more than 200 yards in the Mack Brown era.
- Mack Brown improved to 10-1 in season openers at Texas, including nine wins in a row.
- Texas had two scoring drives of 80 or more yards for the first time since Game 11 of the 2007 season against Texas Tech.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
John Chiles
- Chiles' 29-yard TD pass to James Kirkendoll with 8:24 remaining in the fourth quarter was his first career TD pass.
Quan Cosby
- Cosby caught a pass in his 33rd consecutive game.
- Cosby eclipsed the 1,500 yard mark for career receiving yards. He ended the game 1,509 yards.
- Cosby ended the game with 123 career receptions. He will enter the next game one shy of Limas Sweed (124) for sixth place on the UT all-time list and two shy of Eric Metcalf (125) for fifth.
Blaine Irby
- Irby's 5-yard TD reception with 7:25 remaining in the third quarter was the first of his career.
- Irby caught multiple passes in a game for the first time in his career. His seven receptions and 62 receiving yards were both career highs.
Cody Johnson
- Johnson's 1-yard TD run with 8:48 remaining in the first quarter was the first of his career.
Sergio Kindle
- Kindle's fumble recovery with 11:45 remaining in the first quarter was the first of his career.
James Kirkendoll
- Kirkendoll's 29-yard TD reception from John Chiles with 8:24 remaining in the fourth quarter was his first career TD pass.
- Kirkendoll logged his first career receptions and ended the game with two catches for 39 yards and one TD.
Hunter Lawrence
- Lawrence's extra-point kick with 8:48 remaining in the first quarter marked his first career point.
- Lawrence's 40-yard field goal kick with 13:49 remaining in the fourth quarter marked the first of his career.
Colt McCoy
- McCoy joined Vince Young as the only players in UT history to pass for 200 or more yards and rush for 100 or more yards in a game more than once in a career. Young did the deed on five occasions, including two efforts of 200 or more passing yards and 200 or more rushing yards.
- McCoy logged 325 yards of total offense which ranks sixth in his career. He has 11 career 300-yard total offense efforts.
- McCoy passed for 200 or more yards in a game for the 18th time in his career. He moved into a tie with Chris Simms and Peter Gardere for third place on UT's career list. The trio trails only Major Applewhite (29) and James Brown (20).
- With 103 rushing yards, McCoy eclipsed the 100 yard mark for the second time in his career. His other effort was 106 yards against Oklahoma State last season.
- McCoy's 5-yard TD pass to Blaine Irby with 7:25 remaining in the third quarter was the 54nd of his career, passing James Brown (53) for third place on the UT all-time list. McCoy now trails only Major Applewhite (60) and Chris Simms (58) on the list.
- Late in the second quarter, McCoy completed a 30-yard pass to Chris Ogbonnaya to go over the 6,000-yard mark for passing yardage. He became the sixth Longhorn to ever reach the milestone.
- On the second play of the second half, McCoy completed a 31-yard pass to Jordan Shipley to pass Vince Young (6,040) for sixth place on the UT career passing yards list. McCoy ended the game with 6,095 career passing yards.
- McCoy moved to 21-6 as a starter at UT and is now in sole possession of eighth place for most victories.
- McCoy has thrown a TD pass in 24 of his 27 games, including each of the last five and 14 of his last 15.
- McCoy completed his first 13 pass attempts. He set the school single-game record and became just the third Longhorn to complete 10 or more consecutive passes in one game, joining Vince Young with 12 against Oklahoma State and Chris Simms with 10 against Texas Tech in 2001.
- McCoy, whose last pass attempt in the Holiday Bowl was incomplete, came up two shy of his own school record of 15 consecutive pass completions over more than one game.
- Early in the third quarter, McCoy punted for the fourth time in his career, landing the ball at the FAU 2-yard line. All four of McCoy's career points have pinned the opponent inside the 20-yard line.
Vondrell McGee
- McGee's 7-yard TD run with 13:56 remaining in the third quarter was the ninth of his career.
- McGee's 63 rushing yards ranks second in his career. His best is an 80-yard effort last season against Rice.
Chris Ogbonnaya
- Ogbonnaya's 2-yard TD reception with 3:15 remaining in the first quarter was the first of his career.
- Ogbonnaya set a career-high with four receptions. He previously caught three passes on two occasions.
Ryan Palmer
- Palmer's interception with 1:48 remaining in the first quarter was the second of his career. He intercepted a pass in 2006 against Texas Tech.
Jordan Shipley
- Shipley's 9-yard TD reception with 9:01 remaining in the second quarter was the 10th of his career.
Earl Thomas
- Thomas' blocked punt midway through the third quarter was the first of his career.
Malcolm Williams
- Williams caught his first career pass (7 yards) with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter. He ended the game with three receptions for 25 yards.
Attendance: 98,053 - UT's 47th consecutive sellout and largest home crowd in UT history.
