Soccer plays to 1-1 double overtime tie with Missouri

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas soccer team and the Missouri Tigers played to a 1-1 double overtime tie Friday night out at Mike A. Myers Stadium. It is the second-straight tie for the Longhorns, who move to 4-5-2 overall and 1-0-2 in Big 12 play while the Tigers are now 6-4-2 and 1-0-1 in league action.
Texas got on the board first with a goal from freshman Hannah Higgins. Sophomore Amanda Lisberger picked up her second assist of the season when she took the ball down the right line and sent a cross on the ground to the center of the Tiger box. Higgins one-touched the ball from the top of the six-yard box to the lower left corner of the net for her second goal of the year.
Missouri evened the score with just one minute remaining in the match. The Tigers, who were picked to finish first in the league by the Big 12 coaches, got a goal from senior Michelle Collins as the clock ticked down. Collins received the ball from Kelsey Blincow on the left side of the penalty box and fired it over UT keeper Alexa Gaul for the equalizer.
With the game knotted at one, the match moved into overtime with Missouri outshooting Texas 4-1 during the first 10 minute period. The Horns had the best look of the first extra segment when Higgins broke away from her defender on the right side but sent her shot just side of the goal.
It was Missouri that had the best look in the second period, also from their lone goal scorer, but Collins sent her chance just over the cross bar.
The two teams tied for the first time in 13 meetings with the last stalemate occurring almost 10 years ago on Oct. 24, 1999.
The Longhorns return to the pitch on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they face the No. 19/25 Kansas Jayhawks at Myers Field.
POST MATCH NOTES
- Texas earned one point with the tie moving its conference record to 1-0-2. The Longhorns have four points on the season, good for fourth place in the current Big 12 standings.
-Texas and Missouri tied for just the second time in program history and the first time in 13 meetings. The two squads last tied, 0-0, on Oct. 24, 1999.
- Freshman Hannah Higgins scored her second goal of the season, making her just the third Longhorn to score more than once this season.
-Eight underclassmen started for the Horns, five of which were freshmen.
-Missouri's outshot Texas 24-10... the 24 shots allowed are a season-high for Texas.

On the goal: I had my first college goal last week, and it was a weight off my shoulders. It helped my confidence on the field. So, when Amanda [Lisberger] was dribbling, I just stepped off the line, focused on maintaining composure, and I placed it right into the back of the net.
On playing back-to-back overtime games: All of us are feeling pretty tired in our legs. But everyone is stepping up pretty evenly and overall we are all playing hard.
On the game overall: It was definitely a disappointment because we really wanted a win, especially on home turf, but we'll just have to focus that much more against Kansas.

On the game: I think our inexperience showed a little in the last few minutes of the game and we weren't able to clear the ball the way we should have. But overall, we fought hard, and I thought we played relatively well.
On Kylie Doniak's performance: She gave everything she had, she played really well, and as you saw tonight, gave so much she wore herself out. She has been very creative for us and beneficial for our team overall.
On the upcoming game against Kansas: We're going to have to use our bench more on Sunday, and we are just going to have to step it up, and rise to the challenge. We'll be ready.
