AUSTIN, Texas -- After headlining the Texas offense with two game-winning home runs, sophomore catcher Amy Hooks was named Big 12 Player of the Week. The honor was the first of her career and the first weekly award for Texas this season.
The Longhorns' backstop helped UT to 6-1 record for the week, hitting .389 with two doubles, two home runs and three walks, while posting an .833 slugging percentage and a .476 on-base percentage. Hooks notched at least one hit in each of Texas' victories and added four RBI and fielded her position flawlessly.
In Texas' opener at the Cathedral City Classic, Hooks broke a 2-2 tie against Tennessee Tech with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Horns to a 3-2 win. Hooks struck again with late inning heroics in UT's 5-4 win over Long Island. The Mesquite, Texas, native came to the plate with the Horns trailing 3-2 in the seventh inning and hammered a three-run home run to propel Texas to victory.
In Texas' midweek doubleheader sweep of UT Arlington, Hooks was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. She posted two doubles and a walk in game one of the twin-bill.
Against BYU, Hooks recorded one run, one hit and a sacrifice hit in UT's 5-4 extra-inning victory.
Hooks and her Texas teammates return to action on Thursday, Feb. 26 when they host Louisiana Monroe in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
