No. 3 Softball muscles two home runs, blanks No. 20 Mississippi State at WCWS

Junior RHP Teagan Kavan threw a complete-game shutout and the Longhorns combined for two home runs.
OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 3 Texas Softball blanked No. 20 Mississippi State, 4-0, in Friday evening's elimination game at Devon Park.
Texas will play the loser between No. 1 Nebraska and No. 2 Alabama at 2 p.m. CT Sunday, May 31 on ABC. Nebraska and Alabama clash at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 30.
Texas head coach Mike White amassed his 800th career victory in the win.
The Horns improve to 48-12 overall and 6-2 in the NCAA Tournament. Texas is 3-0 this season in elimination games.
Senior left fielder Kaiah Altmeyer starred offensively for Texas after rocketing a two-out, two-run home run in the second inning. It was Altmeyer's first home run of the season and the 11th of her career.
Texas scored again in the fifth inning, this time off the bat of junior center fielder Kayden Henry. Henry demolished a solo home run to right field to extend Texas' lead to 3-0. The Dickinson, Texas, product had a team-high two hits on the night with both going for extra bases. Henry mashed a leadoff double to left center in the third.
Junior shortstop Viviana Martinez brought home Texas' final run of the night in the seventh on a one-run double to left center field, which scored junior first baseman Katie Stewart from first base.
Junior RHP Teagan Kavan went the distance for Texas in her four-hit shutout. Kavan registered her 600th career strikeout for the game's final out in the bottom of the seventh. The West Des Moines, Iowa, native totaled two strikeouts on the day and surrendered just one extra-base hit – a double in the first inning. Kavan held a two-hitter through six before Mississippi State punctured two base hits in the seventh. Kavan did not give up any free passes.
Texas played flawless defense for the second-straight game at the WCWS.

- Altmeyer pummeled her first home run since May 18, 2025, in the NCAA Tucson Regional vs. Ole Miss. It was the 11th of her career.
- Henry muscled her ninth home run of the season. Henry has homered three times in the NCAA Tournament this season.
- Head coach Mike White recorded his 800th career win.
