AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas women's basketball coach Gail Goestenkors was on the sidelines in Beijing this summer for the national team's gold-medal run, and now she has some gold of her own.
On Saturday, Goestenkors was presented with her official ring commemorating her effort in capturing the gold medal in China during a special presentation before the Longhorns tipped off against Baylor at the Frank Erwin Center.
Goestenkors was also an assistant when Team USA won gold in 2004, and this summer, she became UT's first sitting head coach to serve on the Olympic team staff. Her involvement with the national team simply continued Texas women's basketball's long-standing tradition of producing Olympic talent, including Clarissa Davis-Wrightsil, Kamie Ethridge and Andrea Lloyd from the 1986 NCAA Championship team.
