Women's Tennis falls to Tulsa, 5-2

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas collected singles wins from freshman Krista Damico and junior Stephanie Davison, but it wasn't enough Wednesday afternoon, as Tulsa (17-4) dealt the Longhorns (8-5) a 5-2 defeat at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
With the threat of inclement weather in Austin, the match was moved up an hour to a 1 p.m. Central start, and the teams played the singles matches first. Davison put the Longhorns on the board with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the sixth slot over Tulsa's Ewa Szatkowska. Tulsa assumed a 2-1 lead after registering straight-set victories at the fourth and fifth singles position.
Damico evened the match at two with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tulsa's Jie Zeng at second singles, but the Golden Hurricane clinched the team victory by ending the singles session with victories at the third and first positions. Tulsa's Alexandra Kichoutkin clinched with a 7-5, 6-3 win at the first slot over UT sophomore Caroline Larsson.
Tulsa added on a point by winning a tightly-contested doubles session. Texas senior Marija Milic teamed up with UT's Damico to post a 9-8 (5) tie-break win at first doubles over Thalia Diaz Barriga and Marta Marcinkowska, but the Golden Hurricane, after winning at third doubles, won in a tiebreak at second doubles to nail down the doubles point.
Texas resumes Big 12 Conference play on Friday, March 27 at Iowa State.
