REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Electronic Arts Inc. announced today that former Texas DE Brian Orakpo, the 2008 National Defensive Player of the Year, will be featured on the PlayStation 2 cover of EA Sports NCAA Football 10. Orakpo was the only defensive player out of the four athletes chosen to appear on the covers, joining Texas Tech WR Michael Crabtree, Utah QB Brian Johnson and USC QB Mark Sanchez.
Orakpo, who won the Nagurski Trophy, Lombardi Award and Hendricks Award in 2008, is the fifth Texas athlete and third football player to appear on an EA Sports cover. Former Texas QB and current Tennessee Titan Vince Young, who led the Horns to the 2005 National Championship, appeared on the cover of Madden NFL 08, while 1998 Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams, who is now playing for the Miami Dolphins, graced the cover of NCAA Football 2000.
In addition, former National Player of the Year and NBA Rookie of the Year Kevin Durant appeared on the NCAA March Madness 08 cover, while former Texas baseball star and 2005 NCAA College World Series MVP David Maroul appeared on EA Sports' first college baseball video game, MVP 06 NCAA Baseball.
During his award-winning 2008 season, Orakpo, who earned his degree in youth and community studies in December, ranked in the top 10 nationally in sacks (11.5/sixth NCAA) and TFL (19/t-seventh) to go along with 42 tackles, 30 pressures and four forced fumbles.
