AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas Men's Cross Country Team placed six student-athletes on the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 Teams, the conference office announced. It is the Longhorns' most selections since 2002.
Texas had five runners on the first team led by senior Bradley Lowry (Petroleum Engineering) who picked up his second-straight First Team selection. Joining Lowry are sophomore Leon Dean (Honors Chemical Engineering), redshirt freshman Joey Niland (Biology), sophomore Austin Roth (Business) and sophomore Collin Smith (Undergraduate Studies).
In addition, sophomore Kirk Wilkinson (Computer Science) earned second-team honors.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or over the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of the team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Longhorns head to Stillwater, Okla. this Saturday, Oct. 30, for the 2010 Big 12 Cross Country Championship hosted by Oklahoma State.
