Behm earns Cross Country All-America honors; Women's Cross Country places 20th at NCAA Championships

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- University of Texas junior Mia Behm earned her first cross country All-America honor while leading the Longhorns to a 20th place finish at the 2010 NCAA Cross Country Championships, Monday morning in Terre Haute. Behm placed 35th to become Texas' seventh cross country All-American in the history of the program.
Running at the national meet as a team for the first time since 2003, the Longhorns totaled 441 points for their highest finish since a 19th-place effort in 1989.
Behm, who qualified as an individual in 2009, clocked a 20:47.2 for the highest finish by a Longhorn since 2000 (Liz Diaz, 29th). A trio of Longhorn freshmen finished next for Texas starting with Megan Siebert, who also finished in the top 100 by crossing the line in 21:18.0 for 92nd place. Marielle Hall came in just behind her in 21:39.1 for 135th while Sara Sutherland posted a 21:46.5 for 155th. Rounding out scoring for the Horns was junior Julie Amthor who finished in 159th in 21:47.9.
Sophomore Laleh Mojtabaeezamani and senior Christina Henderson also competed for the Horns, finishing 186th (22:08.1) and 229th (22:51.1), respectively.
Villanova won the team title for the second-straight year with 120 points followed by Florida State (154 points), Texas Tech (165 points), Georgetown (167 points) and New Mexico (227 points). Nova's Sheila Reid claimed the individual title with her 6K time of 20:06.9.
Up next for the Longhorns is the 2011 indoor track and field season, which gets underway on Jan. 14.
