Read more about Williams' and Benson's reunion
Five former Longhorns met on the field Sunday as the Miami Dolphins traveled to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals. Ricky Williams and the Dolphins defeated Cedric Benson, Quan Cosby, Roddrick Muckelroy, Jordan Shipley and the Bengals, 22-14. The Bengals led at halftime 14-12, but the Dolphins were able to capture the lead in the second half on the heels of a field goal and a one-yard touchdown by Williams. The former Heisman Trophy winner rushed nine times for 47 yards and the pivotal one-yard touchdown to help seal the victory for the Dolphins. Benson led all rushers in the game with 20 carries for 69 yards including a long of 13. Shipley hauled in three passes for 28 yards and Cosby averaged 12 yards on two punt returns. Muckelroy contributed to Cincinnati's special teams effort.
Ricky Williams received numerous awards in his collegiate career. His accolades include the 1998 Heisman Trophy, the 1998 Maxwell Award, two first-team All-America selections, two Doak Walker Awards and two Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year Awards. He left Texas as the NCAA all-time career rushing leader (6,279 yards) and touchdown leader (72 touchdowns). Williams currently sits second on both lists. Williams was selected fifth overall in the 1999 draft by the New Orleans Saints. He played three seasons in New Orleans that included two 1,000-yard seasons before joining the Miami Dolphins in 2002, when he rushed for 1,853 yards to lead the NFL. Williams has rushed for 9,227 yards in his NFL career, placing him 30th all-time behind former Longhorn Earl Campbell.
Cedric Benson received the 2004 Doak Walker Award and was named the ABC Sports All-America Player of the Year his senior season. He is currently Texas' second all-time rusher behind Ricky Williams. Benson's 5,540 collegiate rushing yards place him seventh on the NCAA all-time rushing list. Benson was selected fourth overall by the Chicago Bears in the 2005 NFL Draft. Benson tallied 1,593 rush yards in his three seasons in Chicago before joining the Cincinnati Bengals in 2008. Benson's 1,251 rush yards in 2009 were eighth-best in the NFL.
Quan Cosby was a member of the Longhorns' 2005 National Championship team and was a two-time all-Big 12 selection in his time at Texas. Cosby ranks third at UT all-time for receptions (212), third in yards (2,598) and fourth in touchdowns (19). In 2009, Cosby signed with the Cincinnati Bengals. In his rookie campaign, Cosby led the NFL in punt returns (40), punt return yards (474) and placed fifth in yards per punt return (11.9).
Roddrick Muckelroy helped the Longhorns to a victory in the 2009 Big 12 Championship and spot in the 2010 BCS National Championship game. He was named All-Big 12 twice in his career as a Longhorn and ranks fourth on UT's all-time tackles list with 291 for his career. In 2010, he was drafted in the fourth round by the Cincinnati Bengals. Muckelroy has contributed to Cincinnati's defensive and special teams efforts as a rookie.
Jordan Shipley left the Longhorn program as one of the most prolific receivers in the school's history. A two-time All-American and Biletnikoff finalist, Shipley ranks second on UT's all-time list for receptions (238), receiving yards (3,069) and receiving touchdowns (31). Shipley also holds UT records for single-game receptions with 15 and games with 10 or more receptions with seven. Shipley was selected in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. As a rookie, Shipley has caught 24 passes for 349 yards and a touchdown through seven games, including a six-catch, 131-yard performance in week seven when he was named Topps Rookie of the Week.
