MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The Texas Longhorns were defeated, 39-14, by the Kansas State Wildcats in Big 12 football action Saturday night at Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium.
Texas (4-5, 2-4 Big 12) owned a 23-13 advantage in first downs and a 412-270 edge in total offense, but could not overcome five turnovers.
Garrett Gilbert logged a career-high 93 rushing yards on nine carries (10.3 ypc) to pace a Longhorns' ground game that averaged 5.4 yards per carry in gaining 140 yards on 26 rushes.
Mike Davis set a Texas freshman record for single-game receptions, hauling in 11 passes for a career-high 109 yards (No. 10 UT freshman single-game list). James Kirkendoll caught six passes for 72 yards and DeSean Hales registered a career-high five receptions for 41 yards.
The Longhorns held Kansas State (6-3, 3-3 Big 12) to only nine passing yards on 2-of-4 passing, but Collin Klein (127) and Daniel Thomas (106) each logged over 100 yards rushing and due to turnovers, three of Kansas State's scoring drives covered less than 15 yards.
Texas scored both of its touchdowns in the fourth quarter with Cody Johnson scoring his 28th career rushing TD (t-No. 8 Texas career) on a 4-yard run and Gilbert hit Dominique Jones for a 1-yard TD pass on Jones' first career reception.
