No. 13 Softball upends Oregon State, 7-4

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. -- The No. 13 Texas Softball team finished its weekend with a 7-4 win over Oregon State at the Cathedral City Classic, Sunday morning. The victory improved the Longhorns to 14-2 on the year and 3-2 on the weekend, while Oregon State fell to 5-10.
Freshman starter Blaire Luna (7-1) earned the win for Texas after throwing 6.0 scoreless innings (7.0 total), scattering four hits and striking out 11. Senior reliever Erin Tresselt came on in the seventh, surrendering four runs before Luna re-entered the game to record the final three outs. Oregon State starter Paige Hall (3-9) suffered the loss, lasting just 0.1 innings, allowing two runs on one hit and walking two.
Texas pushed two runs across in the top of the first with sophomore designated player Lexy Bennett and junior shortstop Raygan Feight reaching on a hit and an OSU error and coming around to score on a pair of passed balls.
The Horns plated two more runs in the fourth, using back-to-back singles by sophomore third baseman Nadia Taylor and freshman outfielder Taylor Hoagland to start the frame. Senior pinch hitter Tallie Thrasher pushed the lead to 4-0 with a solo homer to left field.
Bennett led off the Texas fifth with a single and came home when Taylor connected for a two-run shot to deep left field, moving the UT edge to 6-0. Junior first baseman Shelby Savony tacked on another run in the sixth with a leadoff solo homer to left centerfield that ballooned the lead to seven.
Oregon State rallied for four runs in the seventh, including a three-run home run by catcher Audrey Roderfeld. The Beavers added a fourth run on an RBI fielder's choice by centerfielder Ashley Sanchez.
Bennett, Taylor and Thrasher paced the Texas offense on the day with two hits apiece, while Taylor added two RBI and two runs scored.
Texas returns to action on Thursday, March 4 when it plays host to Texas Southern. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. Central.
