No. 3 Women's Swimming and Diving knocks off No. 18 SMU, 141-96

DALLAS -- No. 3 Texas (7-1) claimed nine of 11 swimming events and added a sweep of the diving events Saturday in a 141-96 victory over No. 18 SMU Saturday at SMU's Perkins Natatorium.
The Longhorns opened the meet with a tight win in the 200-yard medley relay, where freshmen Jessica Guro and Bethany Adams, sophomore Kathleen Hersey and senior Brie Powers finished in 1 minute, 43.47 seconds. Senior Susana Escobar led a one-two Texas finish in the next event, the 1,000 freestyle and was victorious in 10:04.10. Junior Natalie Sacco, a former Highland Park H.S. standout returning to her native Dallas, took second in 10:20.66.
Sophomore Katie Riefenstahl added to the win count for Texas by taking the 200 freestyle in 1:50.76. Adams led a one-two Texas finish in the 50 freestyle, where she was victorious in 24.03. Sophomore Becca Tomlin took second in 24.23. Sophomore Karlee Bispo added a first-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:04.13.
Sophomore Lauren Caldwell paced the Horns on the one-meter diving event with a winning total of 294.30 points, and freshman Maren Taylor took second with 292.57 points. Guro tacked on a win in the 100 butterfly in 56.29, and Powers notched a victory in the 100 freestyle in 51.82.
Riefenstahl scored her second individual victory of the day with a top time of 5:04.28 in the 500 freestyle. Sacco took second in 5:06.32. Sophomore Maren Taylor completed the diving sweep for Texas by taking the three-meter event with 312.60 points.
With the team victory in hand, Texas elected to decline the points in the final two events and swam them as exhibitions. Texas turned in the winning time in the 200 freestyle relay, as freshman Kelsey Amundsen, Powers, Riefenstahl and Adams took first in 1:34.69.
Texas wraps up the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 10 with the Sprint for the Cure meet at The University of Houston.
