The 2009 Big 12 Champion Texas Longhorns football team was honored at the men's basketball game against Kansas on Monday.
A majority of the returning squad was in attendance and took the floor with the 2009 Big 12 Championship trophy at halftime.
"It's nice to have that recognition and be able to hold up the trophy for the fans one more time," senior DE Sam Acho said. "It kind of closes the chapter on last season. We're already back to work in the weightroom and getting ready for spring practice in just a couple of weeks. We're all excited to be able to get back at it and get back on the field."
The Longhorns are coming off of a season in which they matched the school record for victories in compiling a 13-1 record and an appearance in their second National Championship Game and fourth BCS Bowl in the last six years. Texas finished ranked No. 2 in both polls, which was the fourth Top Five finish in the last six years. It was also the ninth-straight season of 10-plus wins, which is the second-longest streak in NCAA history.
Texas fans will have three opportunities to see the Longhorns in person during the spring season. The Horns' first practice in pads on Tuesday, March 2, as well as the first workout following the High School Coaches clinic, on Monday, March 8 (also in pads), will be open to the public. Both practices will be at Denius Fields (corner of 26th and Red River) and are set to begin at 4 p.m.
The annual Spring Football Jamboree and Orange-White Game presented by Time Warner Cable is scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday, April 4.
More details on that event will be announced at a later date. All times are tentative and subject to change. All updates to the schedule will be posted at www.Mack Brown-TexasFootball.com.
